City Council
The City Council will focus on the FY2024 budget this week with three meetings as a Committee of the Whole to review and likely vote on the Mayor’s proposed FY24 Budget, Capital Improvement Plan, and Supplemental Capital Improvement Plan. The Council has also scheduled two Special Meetings to discuss the request to appropriate $10,000,000 from Free Cash for the Lincoln-Eliot Elementary School construction. See the budget reports to learn more about each department’s highlights — including efforts the City is undertaking toward Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. In addition, the Council will also discuss 6 budget resolutions submitted to the School Department and the Mayor.
Boards and Commissions
Newton Citizens Commission on Energy will meet on Tuesday to hear news from the Clean Energy Center, mapping of gas replacement opportunities, the Mayor’s respond to the meeting on May 8th, and a letter of support for the A Future Without Gas resolution.
Newton Upper Falls Historic District Commission will hold a site visit on Wednesday at 1036-1038 Chestnut Street to review the existing conditions of the rear addition and the demolished chimney and chimney conditions.
Newton Highlands Neighborhood Area Council will meet on Thursday to discuss the upcoming Highlands Village Day (June 11), Levingston Cove, and other Crystal Lake topics, the Route 9 / Winchester / Centre traffic signal, Village Enhancement Project, Outdoor dining, and Zoning redesign.
Newtonville Historic District Commission will meet on Thursday to review a request to install an air unit at the rear of a building at 218 Walnut Street.
