Understanding our Differences has a 45-year history of providing unique, hands–on disability awareness programs to 3rd–5th graders. By exposing young children to what it’s like for a person to live with a disability, UOD creates the beginnings of compassion that lasts a lifetime.
As a person with a disability, I support UOD because it teaches children to be compassionate, inclusive and kind. Unfortunately, these skills are not universally recognized by everyone, especially in today’s society.
I call on the Mayor, Superintendent Smith, and the School Committee to fully fund this invaluable program at its existing $63K budget. Without proper funding, UOD will be forced to shrink to a non–viable size. If you haven’t already, I encourage folks to sign this petition, email the Mayor, Superintendent Smith, and the School Committee, and sign up to give public comment on April 12th at 6:30.
Thank you for your support of UOD!!
