The League of Women Voters of Newton will host Don’t just stand there…RUN! — a workshop for prospective candidates for elected office (and their campaigns) on April 26, 7PM-8PM, both in person (City Hall, Room 211) and on Zoom. A recording of the workshop will be available on the League’s website a few days afterwards.
Candidates, potential candidates, campaign managers, campaign treasurers, and all interested citizens are invited to gain practical information and advice about political campaigns from these panelists:
- Marcia Johnson, President of the League of Women Voters of Newton, and former City Councilor from Ward Two, will moderate
- Carol Moore, Newton City Clerk, will give an explanation of the local filing and state requirements
- Diana Fisher Gomberg, former School Committee Ward 4 member, will discuss being a candidate and an elected school committee official, while working and being a parent;
- Brenda Noel, City Councilor Ward 6, will discuss being a candidate and an elected City Councilor, while working and being a parent
- Madeline Ranalli, former candidate for City Council, will discuss effective Press and Media communications
- Susan Albright, City Council President, will have an overview of the City Council’s jobs, responsibilities, and Council Committees.
