Envisioning a new connection between Newton and Needham

The City of Newton and the Town of Needham are exploring the possibility of creating a Community Way along the former rail right-of-way between the Upper Falls Greenway in Newton and Webster Street in Needham. Two options are being considered:

  • A multi-modal path for bicycles and pedestrians or
  • A facility designed to accommodate bicycles, pedestrians, and electric shuttle buses.

In either case, the Community Way project would construct a bridge over the I-95/Route 128 highway and rehabilitate the bridge over the Charles River to accommodate the multi-use path.

A feasibility study team has developed three ways to reach out to community members to learn their perspectives and interests regarding this Community Way:

  • Hybrid (In-Person / Virtual) Meeting: Tuesday, April 18, 6PM-8PM, at Powers Hall, Needham Town Hall (1471 Highland Avenue, Needham) Zoom link.
  • Virtual Meeting: Wednesday April 26, 7PM-9PM, Zoom link.
  • Online survey: Open until April 30.

The same presentation will be made at both the April 18 hybrid meeting and the April 26 virtual meeting. Registration is required for the virtual meetings. For more information, contact Josh Ostroff at jostroff@newtonma.gov.
