City Councilors weigh in on MBTA’s proposed FY2024-28 Capital Improvement Plan

Twenty-one Newton City Councilors submitted comments on the MBTA’s proposed FY2024-2028 Capital Improvement Plan. According to the comment letter, recognizing critical housing, transportation, climate action, and economic development needs throughout the region, they call on the Healey/Driscoll Administration to provide adequate funding to provide “dependable, but also safe, accessible, frequent, and reasonably convenient” public transportation. While expressing their appreciation for fully funding the Newton Highlands Accessibility Project, the Councilors reminded the Administration of the need to move forward with the Newton Commuter Rail Accessibility project, shared continued concerns with the Better Bus Project‘s redesign resulting in a reduction in Express Bus Service, and emphasized the importance of addressing our climate crisis by investing in the electrification of the transportation system.

A public hearing was held on April 4, 2023. The MBTA is accepting comments until Monday, April 24, 2023 (see flyer). Comments may be submitted by any of three ways:
