The Cabot Park Black History Lecture series will host Dr. Alex Briesacher on January 4 at 3PM in the Community Room at Cabot Park Village (280 Newtonville Ave.). This lecture is free and open to the public. Covid protocols: Masks are required, and visitors will sign in and have their temperatures taken.
Dr. Alex Briesacher received his PhD at Kent State University in Sociology with specializations in Race and Ethnicity and Social Psychology. He is currently an Associate Professor of Sociology at Worcester State University. His work draws from Symbolic Interactionism and Critical Race Theory in analyzing the experiences of Black and Latino students in various educational systems. Most recently, his work, in collaboration with Dr. Thomas Conroy, focuses on the experiences and effects of segregation in Massachusetts public schools. In addition to his research, Dr. Briesacher has won numerous teaching awards, most recently, the George I. Alden Award for teaching excellence. The work being presented serves to introduce and situate Critical Race Theory both within academic discussions of race and ethnic as well as current political presentations of the perspective.
