Newton’s high-school robotics team, the LigerBots, will host the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Newton Qualifier Competition at Newton North High School on November 19. Teams of students in Grades 4-8 build robots with LEGOs and compete in a challenge under this year’s theme, Super Powered. The public is invited noon to 5PM to view the competition, meet the teams, see what the excitement is about, and participate in hands-on activities in the accompanying STEAM Expo. Activities include using chemistry to make slime, programming a human robot, crafting a balloon car, experimenting with stringed instruments, and creating origami. The LigerBots will be demonstrating their 120-pound robot, Prometheus. Admission is free and masks are required except for designated eating locations.
