Jameson Singers at Second Church, Dec. 4

The Jameson Singers will present their holiday program, With a Joyful Heart, at Second Church (60 Highland Street, West Newton) on December 4 at 3PM. Tickets are $15 online or at the door. Highlights include:

  • Ukrainian composer Dmytro Bortniansky’s choral concerto, Slava vo vyshnikh Bohu (Glory to God in the Highest), blending Baroque polyphony, Ukrainian folk melodies, and Church Slavonic liturgy
  • Contemporary Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks’s Dona Nobis Pacem and its poignant plea for peace
  • Johannes Brahms’s motet, O Heiland, reiss die Himmel auf (O Savior, tear open the heavens) — an intensely emotional journey with poetry, chromatic colors, and continually changing rhythms
  • Works from Renaissance masters William Byrd and Thomas Tomkins
  • Modern gems from Stephen Paulus and Stephen Caracciolo
  • Everyone joining in our annual carol sing!

The same concert will also be presented at First Church in Cambridge on December 3 at 8PM (tickets).
