High-school students: LigerBots Open House, Sept. 29

The LigerBots — Newton’s award-winning, dual-high-school FIRST Robotics Competition Team — seeks to recruit new members and will hold an Open House on September 29, 6:30PM-9PM at Newton South HS. Any and all high-school students in Grades 9-12 in Newton North or Newton South who are interested in any aspect of STEM or business — including software, engineering, finance, public relations, fundraising, writing, photojournalism, videography, graphic design, or public speaking — are more than welcome to the Open House and to any LigerBots meetings. No prior experience is required.

The LigerBots team builds a new 120-pound robot every year to compete in a robot game with other high school teams. LigerBots runs like a small business, and students gain real-world skills through project-based learning in many STEAM fields. Experienced adult mentors act as teachers and guides to enrich students’ experience with the team. In the fall, the team meets 6:30-9:00PM on Mondays in the Newton North engineering room and on Thursdays at Newton South. In the spring, the LigerBots participate in a series of FIRST Robotics Competitions.

The team also seeks additional adult mentors, especially in the fields of web design and coding, mechanical engineering, and finance. For more information about the LigerBots, or to express interest in being a mentor, please email info@ligerbots.org
