Newton Free Library fundraiser — Spring Fling, Sept. 17

The Newton Free Library’s annual gala fundraiser, Spring Fling — postponed from April because of Covid — will be held in-person at the Library on Saturday, September 17 to benefit the Library’s award-winning English Language Learners Program. The ELL Program is open to people who want to improve their English language speaking and writing skills, and it currently provides 400 students the opportunity to work individually with one of its 225 trained tutors as well as to engage in group conversation classes. The success of the ELL Program can be measured by its extensive wait list.

Each year, the Library’s Board of Trustees determines which of the Library’s programs will be the beneficiary of the Spring Fling fundraiser. Most recently, Spring Fling helped pay for the new Children’s Room, which opened in August. Four years ago, the Library launched a newly expanded Teen Room, thanks to Spring Fling contributions.

This year, the program features Newton resident Christa Delcamp as Mistress of Ceremonies, author Lisa Napoli, and Boston Globe sports columnist and Newton resident Dan Shaughnessy. Purchase event tickets here and enjoy an evening of lively conversation and culinary offerings from Baker’s Best.
