Riverside Liaison Committee – Updates on Development

The Riverside Liaison Committee met with Mark Development on Tuesday, July 19 and shared the following updates about the development project, provided by Mark Development:

Recreation Road ledge demolition is expected to begin in early September and continue for three months. There will be one blast per weekday (not weekends) between 10AM and 2PM. Intensity of the blasts will be limited because the demolition site is near an MWRA water main. All equipment will access the site from the I-95/Rte. 128 North ramp.

Grove Street utilities (gas and electric) that are closest to the MBTA station on Grove Street will be shut down and moved this fall. Work will take place between 7AM and 2PM and last two to three weeks. One lane of Grove Street may be closed, and there will be a police detail to handle the traffic. Trucks and equipment will need to use Grove Street, but efforts will be made to minimize any impact.

Hotel Indigo demolition is expected to begin in February or March 2023 and will likely take place in two phases: first the parking structure and then the hotel.

Trees: The River birches near the Recreation Road ledge will be removed during demolition. The trees in the berm on Grove Street will be removed during utility relocation. Mark Development will plant new trees along both roads after construction is completed.

Commuter and construction worker parking: Overflow parking is not expected to be needed during the demolition phase, but there will be a neighborhood parking plan in place so commuters and construction workers will not park in Lower Falls.

Construction hours will be 7AM-7PM on weekdays (with the majority of work expected to occur during 7AM-3PM), 9AM-5PM on Saturdays, and no work on Sundays (unless approved by the Mayor).

Noise and vibration monitoring will be placed at the Hotel Indigo site. Mark Development is willing to consider other monitoring locations if needed.

Rodent control will be handled with 24-hour wildlife monitoring cameras, and trapping will be used.

Storm water and groundwater protection and management: Necessary applications and tests are in process.

The next scheduled Liaison Committee meeting will be August 16 at 8AM on Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84003336346?pwd=UUtWSkxuQURnMGtRMVNvMjZuZDVXZz09
