City Forester and Deputy Commissioner of the Newton Parks, Recreation, and Culture Department Marc Welch, provided an online presentation about the benefits of our street trees and what needs to be done to assure their future on June 15th. The City’s street trees provide so many benefits to the public but very little attention has been focused on the need for thoughtful care and planning to maintain the city’s tree canopy. Sponsored by the Newton Conservators and the Newton Tree Conservancy, Marc’s presentation examined how the trees and their maintenance have evolved over the years and discussed ways to ensure these trees remain community assets. The presentation can be viewed on the Newton Conservator’s Youtube channel here.
