The League of Women Voters (LWVN) recently launched a Municipal Transparency and Accountability Initiative to evaluate the transparency and accountability of Newton’s city government and advocate for improvements where needed. They are reaching out to collect information about the community’s experiences and views. Over the next 12 months, LWVN will assess Newton’s efforts and reference community needs and examples of best practices implemented in other communities with a focus on the following areas:
- General information about municipal services, processes, and events
- Fiscal, operational, and demographic data
- Information about City Council activity
- Information and updates on the mayor’s initiatives and priorities
- Information about Boards and Commissions
The LWVN has invited community members active in Newton groups and organizations, to share their experiences with and views about governmental transparency in Newton by responding to this brief survey by July15, 2022. The LWVN expects to share the results with the Newton community in 2023.
