Citizens for Affordable Housing in Newton Development Organization, Inc. (CAN-DO) has launched an outreach campaign to inform families about resources available to families and individuals through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The two programs are:
- Child Tax Credit Program enables families within certain income limits to receive the remaining half of child tax credits for which they would be eligible if they had filed a federal income tax return.
- Internet/Broadband Program provides discounts to eligible households for Internet service and the purchase of a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer.
To assist eligible individuals and families, CAN-DO created this document, which includes two QR codes. One is to claim the child tax credit and the other will enable the family to apply for discounted Internet service. A family with children can benefit from both programs. The discounted Internet service is available to everyone whose income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
CAN-DO is currently reaching out to various volunteer organizations that serve low-income families to help identify those families who might not have submitted a tax return.
