The City Council is queued up to vote on an amendment to the city’s sign ordinance. The current ordinance was recently featured in this Boston Globe article, where Newton residents, Martina and Daniel Jackson, had been subject to an enforcement proceeding brought by the city’s Inspectional Services Department. The Zoning and Planning Committee voted to approve the draft ordinance at its June 13th Meeting (see Report) which included an amendment made by Councilor Krintzman to include the language: “No sign shall create a public safety concern” as well to eliminate the 3’x3’ size limitation – with Councilors Baker, Albright, and Leary opposed. The Planning and Development Board voted to approve the draft ordinance without Councilor Krintzman’s amendment – see Planning and Development Board Memo here.
