First meeting of the Newton Affordable Housing Trust – 6/29

The Newton Affordable Housing Trust will hold its first meeting online this Wednesday, June 29 at 6:00 p.m. (agenda and Zoom link). The Committee consists of the Mayor, Ward 6 at-large Councilor Alicia Bowman, Mayoral appointees Tamirirashe Gambiza, Ann Houston, Jason Korb, and Peter Sargent, and Community Preservation Committee member Judy Weber. Lara Kritzer, the City’s Community Preservation Program Manager, will be the City’s staff person for the Committee. The State passed legislation in 2005 allowing cities and towns to create a funding mechanism to help meet their affordable housing goals, and the City Council voted in December 2021 to create its own Affordable Housing Trust Fund. The Committee is expected to review its mission and procedures, review housing trust bylaws in other communities, and elect a chair and vice-chair. Information about the projects that the Committee will review is not yet available.
