City Council Meetings – Week of 6/19/2022

Full City Council Meeting: The Full City Council will meet both in person (Council Chambers) and virtually on Zoom on Tuesday, June 21st at 7:45 p.m. Go here to watch the Zoom meeting. Financial Audit Advisory Committee: The Financial Audit Advisory Committee will meet virtually on Wednesday, June 22nd at 8:00 a.m. Go here to join the Zoom meeting.

The agenda includes the following:

  • Discuss any questions that the committee may have.
  • Vote to submit the annual report to the Finance Committee of the City Council.
  • Discuss the meeting schedule for the next audit.

Public Safety and Transportation Committee: The Public Safety and Transportation Committee will meet virtually on Wednesday, June 22nd at 7:00 p.m. Go here to join the Zoom meeting.

The agenda includes the following:

  • Two requests for triennial renewal bus licenses
    • VPNE Parking Solutions, LLC. – four licenses
    • Boston College – two licenses
      • Boston College Law School Routes
      • Boston College Main Campus to Boston Route

  • Request for a review and potential amendment to the Tiger Parking Permit Program including a review of the number of permits issued, the lottery process for permits, and locations included in the Tiger Parking Permit Program, and potential amendment to the fees associated with the Tiger Parking Permit Program.

Chair’s Note: The Chair expects to entertain a motion to vote No Action Necessary on the following one item:

  • Request for a review and potential amendment to the Tiger Parking Permit Program including a review of the number of permits issued, the lottery process for permits, and locations included in the Tiger Permit program
  • Request to modify the language of Section 19-29 and Chapter 19-30(g), to allow for administrative changes to be made to the Traffic and Parking Regulations (TPR), and to present the administrative changes made each year to the City Council as part of the annual report of the work of the Traffic Council.

Public Facilities Committee: The Public Facilities Committee will meet virtually on Wednesday, June 22nd at 7:00 p.m. Go here to join the Zoom meeting.

The agenda includes the following:

  • Request for a grant of location to install and maintain a plastic main to serve two new duplex units at 16-18 Josselyn Place
  • Request for a grant of location to install and maintain a plastic gas main to provide service to #39 Westfield Road
  • Request a discussion with the Gass utility, National Grid, the Fire Department and DPW regarding the maintenance of the gas turn-off valve covers (curb or gate boxes)
  • Request to appropriate and expend $49,300,000 and authorize a general obligation borrowing of an equal amount for the renovation/addition to 150 Jackson Road, the new home of the Lincoln Eliot Elementary School, and to apply any premium received upon the sale of the bonds or notes, less the cost of preparing, issuing, and marketing them, and any accrued interest received upon the delivery of the bonds or notes to the costs of the project, and to reduce the amount authorized to be borrowed for the project by like amount.
  • Request to accept the recommendation of the Community Preservation Committee to appropriate $133,002 in Community Preservation Act funding to be appropriated from the Unrestricted Prior Year Funds to the control of the Planning and Development Department for the completion of the 100% design of the Commonwealth Avenue Carriageway Redesign Project in Auburndale.

Programs and Services Committee: The Programs and Services Committee will meet virtually on Wednesday, June 22nd at 7:00 p.m. Go here to join the Zoom meeting.

The agenda includes the following:

  • Request to increase the salary of the City Clerk/Clerk of the City Council to #131,313 effective July 1, 2022 to match the percentage increase included in the FY23 budget for H-Grade employees.
  • Request filed on behalf of Newton resident, Betty Chan, for a resolution supporting the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community
  • Request for a discussion with the Commissioner of Parks, Recreation, and Culture about the maintenance plan for parks, recreation, and culture resources, including recreational fields. This discussion should include an articulation of how additional funds based upon a budget increase and newly collected user group field fees inthe upcoming fiscal year will be utilized. Time permitting, the discussion should also include a descpription of the capital projects on recreational fields that the department intends to complete in the upcoming fiscal year.

Chair’s Note: The Chair intends to ask for vote No Action Necessary on the following 2 (two)
items:

  • Request for a review and potential amendment to the Tiger Parking Permit Program including a review of the number of permits issued, the lottery process for permits and locations included in the Tiger Permit program.
  • Request for a resolution urging the Massachusetts Legislature to oppose H.1234 and the proposed 2022 state ballot initiative that would re-classify app-based delivery and ride-hailing drivers as independent contractors.
