School Committee members want to know why they are being asked to weigh in on the lights at the high school athletic fields. At the April 4th School Committee meeting (starts around 2:11), the Commissioner of Parks, Recreation, and Culture, provided a presentation on the proposal to install lights at the two high school fields. Several School Committee members expressed concerns after hearing feedback from residents regarding the impact on neighboring abutters, community outreach, and process. Other members questioned the use of ARPA funding and their role in the vote. Liam Hurley, Assistant Superintendent/Chief Financial & Administrative Officer, stated that the 2 proposals are on school land and fall under the School Committee’s jurisdiction so an approval, vote, or some type of consent might be necessary. The item is on the School Committee’s agenda for the April 11th meeting.
