Ward 1 Councilor candidate JJ Kazakoff-Eigen suspends his campaign

JJ Kazakoff-Eigen, a first-time candidate challenging incumbent Maria Greenberg for the Ward 1 Councilor seat, sent an email on September 15, saying he is suspending his campaign. This leaves Ms Greenberg without an active opponent in this race, meaning she will almost certainly retain that seat on the City Council.

Mr. Kazakoff-Eigen’s name will remain on the November ballot, since the ballot has already been certified by the City Clerk. (The deadline for requesting removal from the ballot was August 7.)

Mr. Kazakoff-Eigen’s message was sent to supporters and neighbors in Ward 1:

Dear Neighbors of Ward 1,

I am suspending my campaign for Ward 1 City Council.

After reflecting on the process of campaigning and my current family obligations, my family and I have decided this is not the right time for me to continue in the current election cycle for Ward 1 City Councilor. I believe I would be an effective City Councilor and if at a later time the voters agree, I will welcome the opportunity to serve our wonderful community.

I want to thank the many people in our community, leaders, fellow residents, friends and neighbors in Ward 1 for their encouragement and support. I enjoyed meeting everyone and hearing what you have to say about this city that we love, and what we want to see for its future.  I look forward to staying involved and contributing to our community.

Warmest personal regards,

JJ Kazakoff-Eigen
