Happy 30th birthday to NewTV’s Newton News!

Today — January 24, 2024 — NewTV’s Newton News proves wrong the admonition, “Don’t trust anyone over 30.” Established in 1994, the city’s longest-running news program today marks three decades as a trusted source of local news for Newton.

Newton News is a weekly local newscast produced by NewTV, an Emmy Award-winning community media center located in Newton Highlands. Last year, NewTV also won the Alliance for Community Media Hometown Media Award for Best Voter Education Piece for Newton News’s interview with Mayor Ruthanne Fuller regarding 2023 override ballot questions. Newton News hosts both livestreams and recordings on the Newton News YouTube channel.

Newton News will celebrate its birthday by launching a new branding and motion graphics package. Branding includes a new logo, slogan (“Thirteen Villages, One Community”), and newscast intro.

“This milestone is a testament to the important role that Newton News plays in keeping the residents of Newton connected and informed,” said Jenn Adams, news director and host for Newton News since 2002. “For the past 30 years, Newton News has been at the heart of this community, ensuring that every voice and story is heard. We look forward to the next chapter for Newton News, where we will continue to serve as a trusted source for community news.”

Newton News’s hyperlocal coverage provides access to important news and information about all of Newton’s villages that are not typically covered outside the city by larger regional news outlets. “With local news markets dwindling, the urgency to keep community journalism alive has never been greater,” said Adams. “Community news is what keeps us connected with our friends and neighbors.”
