Dan Gaynor said:

I am honored that the voters in Ward Two have selected me to advance to the General Election. Residents from across our community—Bulloughs Pond to Albemarle Field, Newtonville to Edmands Park—showed resounding support for our campaign.

Born and raised here in Newton, I grew up watching my own parents’ commitment to service. As City Councilor, I will protect our community’s priorities, like holding developers accountable, preserving green space, and investing in education. From students to seniors, and from newcomers to life-long residents, Newton should remain the best place to live at any age or income.

Tonight’s result proves that our message and approach is resonating. It’s clear Ward Two voters embrace our vision for substantive, data-driven policy. I’m proud to have built bridges throughout this campaign, including earning the most endorsements–and now, the most votes.

I look forward to building on this momentum and earning the confidence of voters again in the General Election this November.

David Micley said:

This step forward in the campaign isn’t about me – it’s about the diverse coalition of residents that have come together to focus on Newton doing better in delivering basic city services, from streets to schools. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to advocate for Ward 2 residents in the next phase of the race. I also want to give a shout out to Peter Bruce, who ran a strong campaign and taught me a tremendous amount by way of example. Peter is the ultimate grassroots organizer, a critical and independent thinker, and his impact and influence on the race will continue to be felt. Thanks, Peter, for running hard and sharing your insights and ideas!

Peter Bruce’s campaign released this statement:

Peter Bruce, candidate for Ward 2 City Councilor, wishes to congratulate Dan Gaynor and David Micley for their success in making it through the Ward 2 Preliminary Election tonight.

As a political scientist who has dedicated his life to democracy by encouraging widespread participation in voting and civic engagement, Peter is delighted by what was an unusually high turnout for a preliminary race in a non-mayoral election year.

Peter thanks his fellow candidates for a spirited, but cordial, campaign and looks forward to robust voter turnout for the November 7th Municipal Election.
