Boston Vegan Foods in Newton Four Corners

With one small store in Newton, Boston Vegan Foods has big ambitions: to make and sell delicious and nutritious food without harming the environment or animals. The shop, located at 1136 Beacon Street in Four Corners and online at BostonVeganFoods.com, seeks to help people go vegan, thereby cutting down greenhouse gas emissions, reducing animal slaughter, and mitigating the biodiversity loss and deforestation caused by practices of the meat industry.

Among Boston Vegan Foods’ offerings are twelve varieties of burgers, kabobs, and patties, vegan shawarma, lasagna, soups, chili, and many different chocolate treats. The mushroom burgers are a customer favorite, says general manager Elinor Adam, daughter of founder Rachelle Adam.

Rachelle — an attorney, environmental activist, and a Board member of the Earth Law Center — developed the recipes for Boston Vegan Foods over the past fifteen years for her family-owned food business in Israel. She established Boston Vegan Foods in May 2022 and opened the retail store six months later. Longer term, the Adamses plan to turn the store into a hub for other local plant-based manufacturers, selling their items and offering information about their businesses. The Adamses also plan to offer information about anything vegan — recipes, vegan organizations, and events.

To cut down on waste, they offer customers the option of bringing their own containers for burgers and kebabs, which the shop will fill from a dedicated freezer in the back of the store.

The store is currently operating on a summer schedule, open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2PM-7PM, and will have expanded store hours this fall.

Boston Vegan Foods customers may walk in or order online for either pickup or local delivery.  Boston Vegan Foods also sells its products at area independent markets, including Baza Gourmet Foods, Volante Farms, the Butcherie, DeLuca’s Market, and Cilicia Mediterranean Market.
