Memorial Day Observance and Parade 2023

The City will be hosting Memorial Day Weekend Observance Ceremonies this weekend. Both Mayor Fuller and the Newton Veterans’ Services Department will be hosting. The events are as follows:

Sunday, May 28: Beginning with the placement of wreaths at the bridges and monuments beginning at Forte Park at 9AM and then continuing to the American Legion Post 440 and on to the bridges that span the Mass Pike.

All Newton Veterans are invited to march in this year’s Memorial Day Parade. Bands, vendors, and all participants will gather at 2:15PM at Newton North High School. The parade will begin promptly at 3PM and proceed down Walnut Street to Watertown Street, ending at the stand in front of Coletti-Magni Park in Nonantum.

On Monday, May 29: Mayor Fuller, the City Council, the Chaplain, Seth Bai, Director of Veteran Services, and respective veteran organizations will pay their respects and honor veterans at the Newton Cemetery at 10AM rain or shine beginning at the first veteran’s burial lot located on Lake Street and then on to lots on Willow Street and Birch Street.
