NSHS Athletics: Farewell to Tennis Coach Bob Jampol

It is with mixed emotions that we announce that Coach Bob Jampol, our Girls Tennis head coach, has decided to step down to enjoy time with his family. Coach Jampol started coaching at South in 1982 as a Boys JV coach. He took the helm of the girls tennis program in 1991, a position that he has held for 31 years! During his tenure, the girls program became a consistent participant at the state level numerous times. Bob is also instrumental in the organization of the MIAA Individual Tournament, where he has been tournament director for many years. In 2019, the MIAA recognized him as Girls Tennis Coach of the Year for his indefatigable support of the sport at the high school and at the state level. He did all this while teaching English at South for 34 years. Bob will continue to be our liaison to the Friends of Newton Tennis. His commitment to maintaining our courts is admirable. Just this week, he was seen on the courts raking leaves and fixing the winter nets. We are grateful for his service to our student-athletes and wish him a fulfilling and happy retirement! You can read Coach Jampol’s final NSHS Tennis blog here.
